Police summons opposition politicians

Col. Kiiza Besigye, one of those summoned by the police

The police have today summoned four activists of the For God and My Country pressure group to appear at the Special Investigations Unit.

Those summoned are MPs Muwanga Kivumbi and Mathius Mpuuga, Justice Forum president Asuman Basarirwa and FDC?s Ingrid Turinawe.

Also summoned is former FDC leader Dr. Kiza Besigye who is expected to report at the SIU for questioning on Sunday.

According to the police spokesperson for Kampala Metropolitan Ibin Senkumbi the four face charges of managing an unlawful society.

Senkumbi says the group is required to explain their involvement in a planned city clean up exercise that has already been stopped by the police.

However, one of the summoned MPs Mathias Mpuuga says he has not received any summons from either the police or the Speaker of parliament.

Meanwhile

Traders along Kafumbe Mukasa road, one of the areas scheduled for clean-up, have appealed to police to block the exercise.

The angry traders are concerned that whenever politicians visit their area their businesses are affected and some even end up with injuries or being arrested.

They say they have learnt to appreciate their poor sanitary environment advising politicians to take the clean-up exercise elsewhere.
